Prep Your Space

Remove the Cushions and Covers
Start by removing all the cushions, pillows, and removable covers from your sofa. This will make your sofa lighter while preventing these items from getting damaged or dirty during the move. Place the cushions in large plastic bags or boxes to keep them clean and organized during your move.
Take Off the Legs
Most sofas have removable legs on the bottom, and taking them off before you move can save you a lot of trouble. Flip the sofa on its side and unscrew the legs using a wrench or your hands if they twist off easily. If the legs don’t come off, check for hidden screws under the fabric or consult your sofa’s manual. Once removed, place the legs in a labeled bag or box so they’re easy to find later.
Detach the Back and Arms
For larger sofas, it can help to remove the back and armrests. Check for screws or bolts where the arms and back connect to the main frame. If you need to unscrew them, keep all screws and bolts in a labeled bag and tape the bag lightly to the back of the sofa so you can easily find them later.
